Value-driven Vision: clariti® 1 day in Modern Practice

A recent industry report details new wearers’ top five contact lens deliverables.1The clariti® 1 day family checks the boxes on all of them.*†2- 4

Capturing the new wearer market and setting up neophyte wearers for long-term success can be a key building block in a modern contact lens practice. Just look to the literature, and you’ll find numerous investigations that provide a new wearer roadmap for eye care professionals.5-8  In one investigation, Sulley et al. reported handling and comfort topped the drop-out list for new spherical lens wearers.7 For neophyte wearers in toric and multifocal designs, visual issues ranked number one as their reason for discontinuing wear.7

A recent industry report from the Contact Lens Institute (CLI) took the pulse of both new and existing wearers and did a deep dive into how eye care professionals could keep both groups happy in lens wear.1 As part of the report, new and existing wearers were surveyed on their top five reasons for contact lens dissatisfaction. Both groups listed cost as their number one concern, followed by handling, comfort, vision, and convenience. The report also found new wearers were considerably more sensitive to all the factors on the list.

For a modern contact lens practice wanting to expand the new wearer opportunity, it’s important to note: The clariti® 1 day family delivers on each of the new wearer needs.*†2-4

Dr. Jason Ortman, OD, owner of Black Diamond Eye Care’s two practices in Castle Pines and Castle Rock, Colorado, explains why: “clariti® is an excellent choice for new wearers. Due to its modulus, clariti® allows for easy lens handling. †2 Number two and three are the comfort3 and vision that the lens provides.4 And for patients who are price conscious, clariti® has a great silicone hydrogel material in a convenient daily that’s very breathable‡ and offered at a fair price.”*

Here’s a look at how clariti® 1 day delivers on new contact lens wearer needs:

  • Cost: While the CLI report cites cost as the number one concern among new wearers, it is also a consideration for practitioners.9 An international survey found 90% of eye care professionals agreed that silicone hydrogel was the healthiest lens material for their daily disposable patients,9,10 yet the main reason they didn’t prescribe SiHy daily disposables more was due to their typically higher cost.§11 clariti® 1 day offers patients the benefits of SiHy material in a daily disposable lens at a value.*
  • Handling: clariti® 1 day is known for its excellent handling,12 In fact, nearly 90% of new wearers say clariti® 1 day is easy to handle. †2 ECPs give clariti® 1 day high marks for handling too with 9 out of 10 eye care professionals agreeing that clariti® 1 day is easy to handle.13
  • Comfort: clariti® 1 day offers a unique combination of technology and design with WetLoc® Technology and Optimized Comfort Edge™, the latter found in the sphere and multifocal. WetLoc® Technology locks in water molecules that are evenly distributed throughout the entire lens matrix, helping to keep the lens, including its surface, moist throughout the day which supports high levels of comfort.14
  • Vision: clariti® sphere’s aspheric optics provide excellent visual acuity.4 For patients with astigmatism, clariti® toric’s smooth continuous ballast design helps provide optimal stability.|15,16 Additionally, CooperVision® Binocular Progressive System™ in the new clariti® multifocal 3 Add helps provide very good vision for patients with presbyopia.14
  • Convenience: Daily disposables, like clariti® 1 day, offer wearers the convenience of not having to clean and disinfect lenses after each use and the ability to have spare, replacement contact lenses readily available in the event of loss or damage.6 Pro tip from Dr. Ortman: “I explain to patients that daily disposable lenses are becoming the dominant form of contact lens wear because they provide the ultimate in convenience and comfort,3 and with clariti®, an affordable price.”*

Expand Your Practice, Attract More New Wearers

Here are some additional pearls on how to grow your contact lens practice with new wearers.

  • Don’t underestimate the new wearer opportunity. A second report from CLI cites that almost one-in-two glasses wearers express a high interest in trying contact lenses, meaning there’s a tremendous untapped category potential.17
  • Personalize your CL discussion based on the patient. Custom-tailor your contact lens communication to specific patient’s needs and activities. “We have a lot of active patients in our office who love to be outdoors,” Dr. Ortman says. “I tell them they can enjoy their activities and hobbies, whether it’s biking, running, or skiing, and be successful and comfortable in contact lenses with the freedom from glasses.”
  • Every patient is a potential contact lens patient, Dr Ortman says. “It’s important to talk to potential new wearers, and especially younger patients, about contact lenses. They might not know what to ask or the differences between the lens modalities. Seventy percent of our patients are in daily disposables, whether they are full-time or part-time wearers,” he adds.
  • Talk to every potential new wearer about clariti® 1 day, which offers a full family of lenses for a variety of patient’s needs, from spheres, to torics and CooperVision’s latest multifocal innovation, the new clariti® multifocal 3 Add for patients with presbyopia.18
