Myopia Leadership Society Experience

Ever wonder what it's like to be a part of a CooperVision Student Leadership Society? Read on for insights from optometry student Jacqueline Petersen, a Myopia Leadership Society member at the Indiana University School of Optometry.

"I have had the honor to participate in the 2022-2023 CooperVision Student Leadership Society and it has been such an excellent experience. Throughout this leadership role, I focused primarily on the myopia management initiative. I myself have struggled with high myopia from a very young age and wish that its progression could have been slowed while there was still time. Because this was not possible, I am eager to help the next generation.

My participation within CooperVision’s myopia leadership society has granted me with a great extent of knowledge that I am confident will assist me in advocating for myopia management in the near future.

Participation has also allowed me to make great connections throughout various different networking events at the American Academy of Optometry Annual Meeting in San Diego and the Global Specialty Lens Symposium in Las Vegas. I have had the opportunity to meet future colleagues from other schools who share the same interests as me as well as phenomenal doctors who have dedicated their time and knowledge to advancing the optometric profession.

I am confident that my participation in such a nourishing network will allow me and my peers to better educate our patients to truly make a difference in their daily lives. I cannot thank CooperVision enough for this door opening opportunity."
