Q3 2021 Update for the clariti® 1 day Net Plastic Neutral Initiative

The health of our planet is an important issue for so many people, and likeminded eye care practices are seizing the opportunity to connect with sustainability-focused patients on a whole new level. To support your efforts, CooperVision forged a new partnership with Plastic Bank® at the start of the year to make clariti® 1 day the first net plastic neutral contact lens.1 Through this initiative, small changes on the part of you and your patients—simply fitting and wearing clariti® 1 day—add up to make a positive impact.2

For every box of clariti® 1 day distributed in the U.S. since January 2021, CooperVision funds the collection, processing, and reuse of general plastic waste that is equal to the weight of the plastic contained in clariti® 1 day lenses and packaging.3 Based on the sales of clariti® 1 day from the past nine months, this means that with your help, we have removed the equivalent of over 16.5 million plastic bottles from the environment. We are excited about what that means for the environment, and we hope you are, too.

And this is only the beginning. We’re continuing to build momentum behind the clariti® 1 day plastic neutral initiative and we can’t wait to share what’s next. Over the summer, we launched a patient-facing campaign to educate consumers on the sustainability of clariti® 1 day lenses to help drive potential wearers to the eye care practices that prescribe them. We also developed several in-office materials and a digital toolkit that you can use to spread the word about your participation in the clariti® 1 day plastic neutral initiative.

The opportunity is significant. To understand how net plastic neutrality impacts patient perceptions of contact lenses and their eye care professionals, we commissioned a survey of more than 200 people who require vision correction and are considering contact lens wear in the next six to eight months. Results showed that 83% of respondents agreed that their interest in trying contact lenses would increase if a plastic neutral lens was an option.4 For an overview about how offering your patients a net plastic neutral contact lens can help boost profitability in your practice, click here.

The positive impact we’re making with the clariti® 1 day plastic neutral initiative is only possible because of you. So, thank you. Let’s continue on this sustainability journey together.

Let’s do one day better.
