On July 10 – 13, 2019, Dr. Steve Rosinski, Rose Britton, and local Atlanta rep, Carolyn Govan were present at the NOA Convention to celebrate their 50th Anniversary and to award CooperVision’s three $1,000 annual scholarships. The three NOA Future Contact Lens Leader scholarships were awarded to 3rd year Berkeley School of Optometry student, Johnny Pascual; 4th year UAB School of Optometry student, Sydney Ellen Madrigal; and 3rd year MCPHS University School of Optometry student, Cynthia Noorani.
The National Optometric Association is a not-for-profit corporation comprised primarily of minority optometrists throughout the United States. One of their primary objectives is to recruit minority students into the schools and colleges of optometry and provide assistance in placing new graduates in practices, in addition to, enhancing the skills and optometric knowledge of established minority optometrists.
The association was founded in 1969 and currently has over 800 members and 18 student associations with over 700 members. Their commitment and investment in the future of optometry has allowed the NOA to provide an average of $30,000 in scholarships annually.
Dr. Steve Rosinski also had an opportunity to speak to the almost 100 students in attendance where he emphasized the impact these future doctors can have on their patient’s lives. “We all have a story that led us to be an optometrist. Use that story to drive you throughout your career,” said Dr. Rosinski.
