Biofinity® Toric Multifocal | More of your Astigmatic Presbyopes can be Glasses-Free

Among other concerns, aging contact lens patients, especially astigmats, may worry that they may no longer be able to live glasses-free due to presbyopia. In fact, 37% of toric lens wearers[1] are nearing or already experiencing presbyopia. Luckily, with the recent launch of Biofinity® toric multifocal there is now a lens to fit nearly all of your astigmatic presbyopes. Of course, CooperVision® has offered your astigmatic presbyopes a corrective lens option since our 2007 launch of Proclear® multifocal toric, but now we’re taking the next step. With the introduction of Biofinity® toric multifocal we’re bringing Aquaform® Technology and our market leading Biofinity® toric design alongside our unique Balanced Progressive® multifocal technology. With more than 200,000 unique parameter combinations[2], it’s likely you’ll be able to find an option for most of your aging astigmatic patients.

Technologies that power Biofinity® toric multifocal:

Aquaform® Technology

Aquaform® Technology combines a unique balance of high oxygen permeability, a naturally wettable material, and optimum modulus for a soft and flexible lens.  Unlike many other silicone hydrogel lenses, Biofinity lenses stay moist throughout the lens-wearing cycle without the need for surface treatments or coatings.

Optimized Toric Lens Geometry

Same toric design as found in Biofinity® Toric, the most prescribed toric lens on the market[3], with excellent stability, predictable orientation and consistent vision performance.

Balanced Progressive® Technology

A unique combination of two optical designs to give you the flexibility to provide optimal vision for your presbyopic patients.

First, Biofinity® toric multifocal takes advantage of Aquaform® Technology, the breakthrough technology underpinning the Biofinity® family of lenses. The unique chemistry found in Aquaform® Technology, exclusive to CooperVision®, attracts and binds water throughout the lens material to retain moisture.  It creates a naturally hydrophilic silicone hydrogel lens that’s also highly breathable, so your patients can enjoy a healthier lens-wearing experience.

Secondly, Optimized Toric Lens Geometry™ provides the proven design for high patient satisfaction, including uniform horizontal iso-thickness, an optimized ballast band design, a large toric optical zone, and a smooth continuous surface.  In fact, a recent wearer survey in the U.S. showed that 93% of current Biofinity® toric wearers remained in the brand.   Even more impressive was that 84% of patients surveyed agreed that Biofinity toric lenses are the best contact lenses they’ve ever worn.[5]  We expect that aging Biofinity® toric wearers will find the same satisfaction with Biofinity® toric multifocal, as initial product research found that the stability and orientation of Biofinity® toric multifocal is equivalent to Biofinity® toric.[6]

Finally, Balanced Progressive Technology® is CooperVision’s multifocal design that contains multiple zones of vision correction for exceptional vision at all distances: near, intermediate and far. This technology harnesses the natural image processing power of the visual cortex to enhance vision. The ability to utilize both a center-near and center-distance multifocal lens design allows for an individualized fitting for each wearer and eye.

While the Biofinity® family started out as simply a spherical lens offering in 2007, the range has expanded significantly over the years to include toric, multifocal, and most recently, extended range offerings in both sphere and toric designs. With the addition of Biofinity® toric multifocal, CooperVision® has over 230,000 unique parameter options in silicone hydrogel material, more than 10x our nearest competitor.  Having an unrivaled range of contact lenses in silicone hydrogel material did not come about accidentally.  CooperVision® has made significant investments in manufacturing capability, logistics, and technology in order to supply this vast range of contact lens products.  In addition to offering a tremendous range of options for your astigmatic presbyopes, Biofinity® toric multifocal also leverages an effective fitting guide enabling a 93% success rate on initial fitting when using the fitting guide.[7]  As the needs of your patients change, CooperVision® continues to invest in expanding our product portfolio to offer a silicone hydrogel lens option for nearly every patient.
