Changing the Course of Childhood Myopia with Give Brightly™

Myopia can have far reaching implications for children, including their vision, eye health, self-esteem, and even their learning success in the classroom.1-3 While myopia treatment may be an easy choice for many parents, for others, the financial burden can pose an insurmountable barrier.

That’s where Give Brightly™ comes in.

CooperVision’s Give Brightly™ program, formerly Adopt-A-Patient®, provides complimentary contact lenses to patients who may not otherwise be able to afford them. Give Brightly™ also promotes a positive contact lens fitting experience. While in clinic, optometry school students and residents can select a patient to fit with complimentary CooperVision® contact lenses, including MiSight® 1 day for myopia control.4,5

Here, two optometry school students share their real-world experiences with Give Brightly™ and the impact the program has made in the lives of their young patients.

A World in Focus with MiSight® 1 day

By Alyssa Clemente, Fourth-year Student, SUNY College of Optometry

I recently began seeing patients in our myopia management clinic and have been gaining extensive exposure to different treatment modalities, including soft contact lenses with ActivControl® Technology for myopia control.†5 Dr. Xiaoying Zhu and I recently fit our patient, Emma, in MiSight® 1 day lenses. This was an experience that I’m excited to share.

Being by Emma’s side every step of the way, from her initial lens fitting, I&R training, and the finalization of her prescription, was an excellent learning experience for us both. This was my first time working with MiSight® 1 day lenses, and I found that they provided an easy fit‡4,5 with good comfort for our patient.6 After inserting her very first trial, Emma immediately looked at her mom with such excitement on her face! Emma was very motivated from the get-go but became even more motivated once she experienced the quality of vision that was possible with MiSight® 1 day.5-7 Emma learned how to insert and remove the lenses quickly and was excited to begin wearing them at school.6

At Emma’s most recent visit, she shared how MiSight® 1 day has made such a positive impact on her life. She was amazed at how well she could see her world without glasses,5-7 especially throughout the school day.§6 Emma loved the fit, feel, and sense of confidence these lenses have given her.8,9 She’s also gained independence and responsibility from being able to insert and remove the lenses by herself.à5 Emma’s mom was happy to see her daughter thriving, while also gaining the ability to proactively manage Emma’s myopia progression.

I want to thank CooperVision for including Emma in the Give Brightly™ program. This case has given me such great exposure in working with ActivControl® Technology in a pediatric setting.

I’m grateful for this learning experience and to have played a part in helping to improve Emma’s future!

A Clear Choice: Managing Zhai’s Myopia with MiSight® 1 Day

By Danielle Vega, Second-year Student, WesternU Health Eye Care Institute

Our patient, Zhai, came to our clinic with steadily progressing myopia. As someone who loved basketball, Zhai relied heavily on his vision, however his struggle with myopia added difficulties to his day-to-day life.

When he came for a contact lens follow up, Zhai’s visual acuity had worsened. His mother was concerned about Zhai’s myopia progression and how it may impact his future.

It was decided that Zhai should give CooperVision’s MiSight® 1 day contact lenses a try. Zhai was well experienced with wearing contact lenses, so the goal with these new lenses was to provide myopia control5 with the hope that his vision remained stable while offering the same comfort he was already used to with contact lenses.

Upon dispensing, Zhai said MiSight® 1 day felt just as comfortable as his current contact lenses.6 He left the clinic with a 2-week supply of trials to wear at home, school, and basketball practice. At his follow up appointment, Zhai expressed how happy he was with the lenses.¶10 He shared how much of a difference  MiSight® 1 day had made on his vision during school and basketball practice.5 When testing his visual acuity, we saw that it had improved since his last visit. Eager to have his new prescription finalized, Zhai was excited to get back to the court, and his mother was reassured that he was on the right track in his myopia control journey.5
