Rooted in Rochester: CooperVision’s Local Impact

CooperVision is a global contact lens leader, but we’re also proud of our hometown roots. That’s why we’re grateful to call Rochester, New York, home.

As a company, an employer, and as a team of individuals who live and work in the Greater Rochester area, being a good neighbor is engrained in everything we do.

In our own backyard, we empower youth. We support our local eye care professionals (ECPs). And we’re there to lend a hand when our neighbors need one. As a business leader, we believe that giving is a must, partnering is essential, and helping others in our community is an integral part of our values that we live.

“Rochester is a vibrant, tight-knit community, and CooperVision is incredibly proud to be part of it,” says Jerry Warner, President, CooperVision, Inc. “As a major regional employer, it’s more than a duty to support our neighbors. It’s part of the fabric of who we are. We are fortunate to call Rochester home, and we are committed to being a positive, impactful community member.”

Here are 5 ways that CooperVision supports the Greater Rochester community.

1. Partnering with ECPs and Championing Children’s Vision

local Rochester optometrists and members of CooperVision gathered for Mission ROC, an educational event that helped educate and support regional optometrists about childhood myopia.

By 2030, it’s estimated that nearly 50% of North America will have myopia.1 The steady rise in myopia rates has also been acutely noted in children.

To help combat childhood myopia, we were excited to launch Mission ROC last year at our Victor, New York, Headquarters. The 1-day workshop included over a dozen local ECPs and members of our CooperVision team who shared ideas, clinical insights, and best practices in myopia management, all with the unified goal of protecting children’s vision and long-term eye health.

In addition to supporting local ECPs through new initiatives such as Mission ROC, we’ve also enjoyed a long-standing partnership with the Rochester Optometric Society. In fact, for more than 20 years, CooperVision has been a sponsor of the Rochester Optometric Society and its annual Perry Lomb Scholarship event. By supporting this meeting, CooperVision continues to foster the next generation of optometrists, ensuring they have the opportunity to succeed and make a meaningful impact in our own backyard.

2. Supporting Literacy with Reading Power Play

Partnerships are vital to us. That’s why we are thrilled about our ongoing partnership with a Rochester home team to promote children’s reading. CooperVision is an exclusive sponsor of the Amerks Reading Power Play program, an exciting initiative that teams up hockey players from the Rochester Americans (aka Amerks) with the Monroe County Library System. Through the program, players visit local libraries and read to children. The players also show off their skills with a brief hockey demonstration during the library visits.

“At CooperVision, we believe in the power of reading to spark imagination and build brighter futures,” says Steven Robins, President, Americas, CooperVision. “As one of our core community values, we’re committed to helping children grow, learn, and thrive. That’s why we are proud to support the Rochester Americans’ Reading Power Play program, bringing books and inspiration to youth across our community. Together, we are helping kids see the world more clearly and dream more boldly."

3. Building Strong Futures for Youth

CooperVision believes in empowering the next generation. That’s why we’re pleased to partner with Girls on the Run, including sponsoring the organization’s season long program. Girls on the Run offers fun, evidence-based programs that inspire participants to recognize their inner strength, increase their level of physical activity, imagine their possibilities, and confidently stand up for themselves and others.

4. Celebrating Our Membership with the Greater Rochester Chamber

CooperVision is proud to be an active member of the Greater Rochester Chamber, a partnership that strengthens our ties to the local business community and reinforces our commitment to regional growth and professional development for our employees and members of the community.

Here are just two examples of our partnership in action with the Chamber:

  • Women Empowering Women Conference: We were pleased to sponsor this event that inspires personal and professional growth for individuals just starting their career or advancing to the next level. Several of our employees participated in this rewarding, annual event.
  • Greater ROC Young Professionals Conference. This dynamic inaugural event brought together emerging leaders from across the region, including several from CooperVision, to network, learn, and explore ways to shape the future of Greater Rochester. Our involvement reflects CooperVision’s commitment to supporting talent development and positioning ourselves as an employer of choice for the next generation.

5. Lending a Hand to Neighbors in Need

Throughout the year, CooperVision supports organizations that help improve the lives of our neighbors. During the past holiday season, we partnered with five organizations, including Education Success Foundation, to ensure deserving families had a joyful holiday season. We also partner with the local chapter of the American Diabetes Association, in addition to Camp Abilities, Foodlink, Friends of the Genessee Valley Greenway, and Special Olympics, to name a few.

In addition to supporting local nonprofit organizations, we also partner with our regional institutions of higher education. In this vein, we were excited to launch a supply chain management capstone project with the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). Through this program, CooperVision’s Global Supply Chain team partnered with senior undergraduates from RIT’s Supply Chain Management program on their capstone project, offering these students real-world, hands-on experience that can shape their future careers.
