PLEASANTON, Calif., December 16, 2014 — Against a backdrop of excitement from eye care professionals at the American Academy of Optometry’s annual meeting in Denver, CooperVision, Inc. celebrated the expanded availability in the U.S. of clariti® 1 day, the world’s first and only family of silicone hydrogel 1 day contact lenses.
CooperVision added clariti® 1 day to its product portfolio through its acquisition of Sauflon earlier this year, and is now significantly increasing access to clariti lenses®, which previously had limited domestic availability. Customers can now order clariti® lenses directly through CooperVision, with fast and convenient shipping from the company’s central distribution center. Fitting set availability will continue to grow in December, as well as availability of the lenses through authorized distributors.
“clariti® 1 day lenses combine the benefits of a proven silicone hydrogel material with the benefits of the daily disposable modality—the only brand to do so in sphere, toric, and multifocal options,” said Bob Ferrigno, president, North America, CooperVision. “Now, eye care practitioners have more options than ever for moving a greater number of patients into 1 day lenses, better meeting everyone’s needs. The clariti® 1 day family enables practitioners to retain and acquire more patients, effectively fitting more wearers, and improving profitability for their practices.”
In addition to being a silicone hydrogel material, clariti® features high water content to support excellent all-day comfort and high oxygen transmissibility to provide a healthier lens-wearing experience.
In Denver, CooperVision hosted a special evening to re-introduce the industry to clariti®. Three optometrists—all of whom were among the first in the U.S. to begin fitting clariti® early this year—were on hand to share their experiences.
“We’ve moved most of our patients to silicone hydrogels, so it has been difficult to take a step backward in technology with other daily disposables,” said Michael DePaolis, OD, FAAO, who practices in Rochester, N.Y. “I was excited to see clariti® come to market, because with the advanced technology of silicone hydrogels in a daily disposable, and at such an affordable price point—it’s a win/win. My patients love them.”
clariti® 1 day lenses feature sphere powers from +8.00D to -10.00D (0.25 steps up to ±6.00D, 0.50 steps beyond ±6.00D); a base curve of 8.6mm; and a diameter of 14.1mm.
clariti® 1 day toric lenses power ranges include plano to -6.00D (0.25 steps), -6.50D to -9.00D (0.50 steps) with cylinder options of -0.75D, -1.25D, and -1.75D in axes of 90º ±30º and 180º ±20º, –2.25D in axes of 90º and 180º ±20º; and +0.25D to +4.00D (0.25DS steps) with cylinder options of –0.75D, –1.25D, and –1.75D in axes of 20°, 70°, 90°, 110°, 160°, and 180°.
clariti® 1 day multifocal features the same base curve, diameter, center thickness and Dk/t as the clariti® 1 day lens, with a power range of +5.00D to -6.00D (0.25 steps) with ADD powers of Low (up to +2.25D) and High (+2.25D to +3.00D).
clariti® 1 day is available in 90-pack cartons, and clariti® 1 day toric and multifocal are available in 30-pack cartons.
“I’ve been particularly impressed with clariti® 1 day multifocal,” said David Geffen, OD, who practices in La Jolla, Calif. “The low ADD is superb, and offers my patients excellent distance vision, as well as intermediate and near vision. I’m a big proponent of daily disposables, and clariti® has helped increase my multifocal daily disposable fittings because I now have access to a better selection of lenses with which to do so.”
Brooke Messer, OD, who practices in Excelsior, Minn., said, “Our office continues to fit more and more daily disposables, and my experience with clariti® has been very positive. Patients really notice the comfort, especially at the end of the day when their previous dailies had become dry and less comfortable. clariti® allows patients to wear a high quality, silicone hydrogel lens at a cost that makes buying a year’s supply appealing. It’s great for the office and the patient.”
"With clariti® and Biofinity®, we are able to offer a wide spectrum of silicone hydrogel lenses. Practitioners can now fit virtually any patient in a highly breathable, innovative lens that provides exceptional ocular health and outstanding comfort for the patient," said Ferrigno. "We couldn't be happier to be able to offer this level of choice and flexibility to our customers and their patients."
