Puerto Rico Recognized for Multiple Programs
and Costa Rica Awarded the Ecological Blue Flag
PLEASANTON, CALIF., August 8, 2019 — The CooperVision Juana Díaz manufacturing facility has once again received top honors at the 2019 Puerto Rico Environmental Health and Safety Summit. The Puerto Rico Manufacturers Association (PRMA) recognized the site with four prestigious awards for its programs and practices relating to its sustainability and occupational health and safety commitments.
CooperVision was honored with:
- A seventh consecutive President’s Award, given to the company with employee injury rates that are 50-74% below the national average.
- A fourth consecutive Recycling Platinum Award, which is presented to an organization that exemplifies best practice standards in alternate energy and sustainability. This award is granted to all facilities that demonstrate a greater than 90 percent recycling rate.
- Environmental Sustainability Silver Award, recognizing the site’s environmental operational excellence in reducing the environmental footprint and contributing to environmentally sustainable development of Puerto Rico.
- Meritorious Award, which once again, proves the Juana Díaz site’s commitment towards a greener future, while keeping in mind sustainable practices.
“The Juana Díaz site is dedicated to promoting and supporting environmentally stable projects that benefit employee wellness, health, and productivity,” said Rolando Torres, Executive Vice President, Global Manufacturing at CooperVision. “We are honored to be recognized by the PRMA and are grateful for their ongoing support.”
In addition to the PRMA honors, CooperVision’s LEED® Silver-certified manufacturing plant in Alajuela, Costa Rica was recently accepted into the Ecological Blue Flag program for its sustainability efforts. This award recognizes organizations for their voluntary work to conserve and protect natural resources and take action to address climate change in Costa Rica.
As with all its environmental, health and safety (EHS) advancements, the CooperVision operations team disseminates best practices to its other production sites worldwide, including the United Kingdom, Hungary, and the United States. The company’s EHS team is also active in sharing its knowledge with other manufacturers, advocating for the health and safety of all employees and residents of the communities in which it operates.
The most recent honors reflect only a portion of CooperVision’s environmental initiatives. The company is continuously working to minimize environmental impact and operate more sustainably around the globe as part of broader efforts across The Cooper Companies to contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
