SAN RAMON, Calif., May 18, 2020—CooperVision has announced that its new Biofinity® toric multifocal contact lenses are now available nationwide in the United States.
“Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, we understand that eye care practices are operating under various circumstances, and for many, fitting contact lenses still may not be possible,” said Jerry Warner, President, Americas and Global Commercial Functions, CooperVision. “Despite the current challenges, we’re able to bring Biofinity® toric multifocal fully to market. When practice doors are open again, and eye care professionals have patients back in the chair, Biofinity® toric multifocal lenses will provide an easy-to-fit, advanced lens design for their astigmatic presbyopes—patients for whom contact lens wear was previously a challenge.”
Biofinity® toric multifocal combines the comfort and leading optical designs of Biofinity® toric—the most prescribed toric lens on the market1—and Balanced Progressive Technology® from Biofinity® multifocal that has four distinct ADD powers for more accurate fitting. Like all Biofinity® silicone hydrogel lenses, Biofinity® toric multifocal features CooperVision’s Aquaform® Technology, which offers superb breathability and higher moisture content to keep eyes comfortable and healthy.
CooperVision’s made-to-order advantage results in more than 200,000 prescription options2 to ensure eye care professionals have the lens they need for each individual patient, resulting in the right fit, the first time. In fact, studies of Biofinity® toric multifocal showed a 93% success rate on initial fitting when using the fitting guide.3 Fitting is even easier with the toric and multifocal fitting calculator in CooperVision’s OptiExpert app, which will be updated in early June and is free to download in the App Store and Google Play, or can be accessed on the web.
Early feedback from eye care professionals fitting the lens has been positive.
“Biofinity® toric multifocal has exceeded my expectations with every patient I have had the opportunity to fit with it so far,” said Harmin Chima, OD, who practices at Family First Vision Care in Lyndhurst, Ohio. “Patients reported incredible comfort—a quality I have come to expect from all Biofinity® lenses—as well as the stability we appreciate in Biofinity® toric. I have also been impressed with patient feedback on both distance and near vision with the first trial pair.”
“I’m a firm believer that anyone who wants to wear contact lenses and is a good candidate for doing so should have the option. Biofinity® toric multifocal is an innovative lens that equips me with the technology to help make that happen,” Dr. Chima continued.
Biofinity® toric multifocal lenses are available in sphere powers from +10.00 to -10.00 (0.50 steps after +/-6.00D), with cylinder powers from -0.75 to -5.75 (0.50 steps), an axis of 5 degrees to 180 degrees in 5-degree steps, and ADD powers of +1.00, +1.50, +2.00, and +2.50, with each ADD available in a D and N lens.
