SAN RAMON, CALIF., August 19, 2021—To further build upon eye care professionals’ knowledge and increase their confidence in fitting scleral contact lenses, CooperVision Specialty EyeCare recently led an expert panel discussion and interactive trivia game at the fifth annual International Congress of Scleral Contacts (ICSC). The event—which took place both virtually and in-person from July 23-24—attracted more than 350 attendees who learned more about the company’s Onefit™ MED and Onefit™ MED+ family of scleral lenses.

The session was led by Leah Johnson, OD, Director of Professional Affairs, CooperVision Specialty EyeCare. She was joined by John D. Gelles, OD, Shalu Pal, OD, and Justine Siergey, OD, who discussed a range of topics including delivering ideal oxygen, comfort and vision to dry eye patients, instrument-driven fitting, and improving patient satisfaction rates.

Among the key takeaways, attendees had the opportunity to dive into recent research results surrounding the visual quality of multifocal scleral lenses. The results suggest that decentered multifocal optics—as used in the Onefit™ family—provide better subjective vision, measurable findings, and achieve better near vision in patients’ eye.1 In addition, the panel discussed the overall advantages of Onefit™ scleral lenses, including better centration, retention, comfort, and hydration.

“Beyond product education, having the ability to directly connect with the eye care community in such a fun, interactive way was mutually beneficial,” said Dr. Johnson. “We’re always looking for new and innovative ways to become a resource for eye care professionals. Through our panel discussion and trivia event, not only were we able to offer doctors the resources and tools needed to further enhance their practices, but we were able to better understand their current needs and potential opportunities regarding specialty lenses.”

At the end of the event, attendees received a preview of CooperVision Specialty EyeCare’s new intuitive multifocal online fitting tool for Onefit™ MED and Onefit™ MED+ scleral lenses. The tool—which will launch in November 2021 as an additional option within the already robust online custom tools box—will enhance fitting and final parameter selection for lenses designed with decentered multifocal optics.
