Pleasanton, CA, USA, October 4, 2013 — Global contact lens manufacturer, CooperVision, is delighted to have won a Silmo d’Or award for the recently launched MyDay daily disposable lens.
The accolade was announced on Thursday 26th September 2013 at the 20th consecutive edition of the ceremony, part of SILMO, the global optical fair and essential trade show for professionals in the optics/eyewear sector, in Paris.
This year’s event was chaired by renowned designer, Mathieu Lehanneur, who led a jury of experts in assigning the prestigious awards celebrating creativity and innovation across eight key categories.
The ‘Best Product, Contact Lens Award’ is a fitting recognition of the advances CooperVision has made in successfully delivering MyDay, a lens which offers practitioners and patients the optimal balance of comfort, handling and breathability for a healthier lens-wearing experience.
Launched earlier this month across Europe, MyDay lenses (stenfilcon A) feature a unique chemical structure called Smart Silicone™ chemistry which creates efficient channels for oxygen delivery to the cornea. With less raw silicon needed to achieve the desired oxygen permeability levels, the efficient silicone network allows for increased hydrophilic materials. This results in improved lens surface wettability, higher water content and lower, hydrogel-like modulus for a softer, more comfortable wearing experience.
Upon receiving the award CooperVision’s vice president, Europe, Mark Harty, said: “We are honoured to have won the Silmo d’Or and for MyDay to have been given the recognition it deserves. We’ve spent time developing a lens platform that addresses all critical requirements from the industry and wearers so it is fantastic that this patience has paid off. We are very proud to have been able to deliver an award-winning product perfect for today’s generation who want to experience all the world has to offer, yet do so effortlessly.”
