Adam’s Story

Adam’s vision for the future is bright

Eleven-year-old Adam’s eyesight problems affected every part of his life, but nowhere were they more frustrating than on the ice. His glasses didn’t fit comfortably under his hockey helmet, and seeing the puck clearly while skating at high speeds was a constant challenge. After a tryout where he didn't make the team, his mother, Selma, knew it was time to have his vision checked. A visit to the eye doctor revealed his prescription had changed from -.75 to -1.75, confirming her growing concerns about the progression of his myopia.

Myopia occurs when the eyeball grows longer than it should or the cornea is too steeply curved. Instead of focusing precisely on the retina, light is focused in front of it, causing blurry distance vision. As Adam experienced, symptoms of myopia can include frequent squinting and headaches. Left untreated, severe myopia can increase the risk of serious eye conditions later in life, including glaucoma, cataracts, retinal detachment and macular degeneration. Given Adam’s rapidly progressing myopia, these long-term eye health risks were Selma’s greatest concern.

So when MiSight® 1 day contact lenses offered a way to help slow the condition’s progression, Adam and his parents were eager to give them a try. As Selma says, “Once I learned more and more about MiSight® 1 day contact lenses, I knew it was the right fit.”

MiSight® 1 day contact lenses are FDA approved* to slow the progression of myopia in children ages 8-12 at the initiation of treatment. Specially designed for children, these daily disposable soft contact lenses correct distance vision immediately while helping control myopia in age-appropriate children.

After trying MiSight® 1 day, Adam was able to enjoy the activities his myopia had once made difficult. He even made the travel hockey team for the first time. Thanks to MiSight® 1 day contact lenses, he says, “Everything was so much easier. I could play hockey, play baseball, bike around with my friends and play video games so much better.”

But the greatest benefit of wearing MiSight® 1 day has been the consistency of Adam’s vision. After a year of wearing MiSight® 1 day contact lenses, his myopia had not progressed at all. Now, Adam and his parents have greater peace of mind knowing his myopia is under control.
